New Delhi: For the first time, Emaar MGF, the builders of the Commonwealth Games Village have responded to controversies around the Village in the run-up to the Games.
But speaking to NDTV, Emaar MGF says they have complied with all laws and regulations. They say the Games Village is a world class structure developed in record time.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had blamed the builders for the poor state of the Village and reports suggest the CVC has sent them notice as part of a larger probe.

Commonwealth Games Organising Committee's term extended
New Delhi: The ministers' panel on the Commonwealth Games has met for the first time after the completion of the Games and has decided to extend the tenure of the Organising Committee (OC) for the Games.
The tenure of government officials associated with the OC has been extended till further orders.
The Sports Ministry will now decide how long their tenure should be.
Addressing a press conference, Jaipal Reddy, Chairman of the Group of Ministers on CWG said, "The senior officers made available to the Organising Committee by the Government of India will be allowed to continue in the Organising Committee until further orders."

CWG audit has tough deadline: Three months
New Delhi: The man who will lead a massive audit of the Commonwealth Games has set an ambitious deadline. In three months, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) says, his team will present its findings on the Games to the government.
The Games were suffused with an array of corruption charges. Now, 24 government departments - 14 of them belonging to the Delhi government - will have to explain why so much money was spent, and what it was spent on.
CAG Vinod Rai said the audit has three goals -to establish "the physical outcome of expenditure, accountability, and whether it has been most optimal utilization of resources."
Every transaction and contract will be scrutinized by a team of 80-100 CAG staffers, who've been asked to immediately cancel any vacation plans.
An interim report of the CAG submitted before the Games began found that consultants picked for sponsorship and broadcast rights deals had been selected despite not offering the best terms to the Organizing Committee.

Biggest CWG fight: Sheila vs Kalmadi
NEW DELHI: The Games are over and the fighting has begun. A day after chief minister Sheila Dikshit said corruption in the Games preparations appeared to stem from the Organizing Committee, its chairperson Suresh Kalmadi hit out at her, saying she should look at her own departments. Blasting Dikshit's "attempt to take credit" for salvaging the Games Village, Kalmadi stated bluntly, "We don't want to be the scapegoats anymore."
He also pointed out that the panel headed by former CAG V K Shunglu would probe not just the work undertaken by "the OC at a budget of Rs 1,620 crore but also the Rs 16,000 crore spent by the Delhi government". Squarely blaming the Delhi government for much of the flak the OC got, Kalmadi said: "The OC was constantly being criticized for delays and shoddy work when they were not at all involved in any construction activity... When the foot overbridge near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium collapsed, it led to doubts about safety... We had to do a lot of hand-holding and cajoling to ensure that the full complement of 71 nations and territories took part in the Games."
Kalmadi's statement -- which he pointedly issued on Dussehra-- followed his exclusion from functions hosted by both the PM and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to felicitate CWG medal-winners. In it, he also mentioned that the Prime Minister's Office deputed a number of officers, including CEO Jarnail Singh, to work with the Organizing Committee. The import was clear: he's not going to silently accept all the blame for the messy preparations.
Many in the government and political circles are likely to agree with Kalmadi that the Group of Ministers, Cabinet Secretariat and the PMO should also be held accountable for the shoddy work that gave India many anxious moments.
However, Kalmadi chose to focus his attack on Dikshit even as he draped himself in national colours, possibly because he did not want to open too many fronts simultaneously. Besides, his attack on the CM may find support among many who have been resentful of the way Dikshit walked away with the credit for the successful Games.
"The Games have succeeded because of the efforts of Team India, including a large number of people and agencies and not any individual. Mrs Dikshit's attempt to take credit for getting the Games Village ready in time does not fit with the team concept. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and the OC, who were preparing the Village for over two years, coordinated the work of a number of agencies to ensure that it was entirely ready to welcome the athletes," said Kalmadi.
The pointed reference to the L-G follows a recent letter by Tejinder Khanna to the PM, protesting against Dikshit's alleged projection of herself as the `rock star' who turned around the Village. Many in the government and within the Congress share Khanna's heartburn. Statements by the like of CWG England president Kelly Holmes that England and Scotland only came to the Games because of Dikshit's efforts have only increased their angst.
In his statement, an angry Kalmadi singled out the CM's allegations, saying her "aspersions on corruption in the OC" were "disappointing" and "uncalled for". "It is not right to deflect and point fingers at others when she must indulge in self-reflection on corruption in her own departments," he said. "She has said that the ways of the OC are mysterious whereas Commonwealth Games chief Michael Fennell declared the conduct of the Games exceptional and successful."
Warning his detractors that "keeping quiet should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness" or guilt, Kalmadi insisted that transparency and accountability remained the watchwords in the OC. "We are confident that the guilty will not be spared irrespective of which agency they belong to," he said, adding that the OC had already welcomed the PM's decision for a high-level inquiry.
Claiming that the OC's responsibility was confined to conduct and delivery of the Games, Kalmadi said the organizers had done their job. "I am proud that the world has declared that conduct of the Games was faultless, with all competitions being held as per schedule... The execution of these plans was impeccable. It led Organising Committee to deliver spectacular Opening and Closing Ceremonies that were overseen by the Group of Ministers," adds Kalmadi's statement.
Kalmadi's attack marks the end of the pact of silence among those responsible for the Games. It is likely to lead to much airing of dirty linen but may be welcomed by those who hope that the strife will ensure that the truth comes out in all its complexity.

राष्ट्रमंडल खेल : हरियाणा के पदक विजेताओं को कार भी मिलेगी!
चण्डीगढ़। राष्ट्रमंडल खेल-2010 में पदक जीतने वाले हरियाणा के खिलाç़डयों को राज्य सरकार द्वारा घोषित नकद पुरस्कारों के अलावा इनाम के रूप में मारूति कार भी दी जाएंगी। पदक विजेताओं को हरियाणा के गु़डगांव शहर में निर्मित मारूति सुजुकी कार मिलेंगी। मुख्यमंत्री भूपेंद्र सिंह हुड्डा ने शनिवार को कहा कि जापान स्थित मारूति सुजुकी कंपनी के प्रबंधन के साथ उनकी बात हुई है। वे सभी पदक विजेताओं को कार देने को राजी हैं।राज्य सरकार राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में स्वर्ण, रजत एवं कांस्य पदक जीतने वालों के लिए क्रमश: 15 लाख, 10 लाख एवं 7 लाख रूपये के नकद पुरस्कारों की घोषणा पहले ही कर चुकी है। उल्लेखनीय है कि राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में हरियाणा के 15 स्वर्ण पदक विजेता हैं। इनमें से दो अन्य स्वर्ण पदक विजेता सायना नेहवाल (बैडमिंटन) तथा सुशील कुमार (कुश्ती) का हरियाणा से गहरा रिश्ता है। सभी को मारूति एसएक्स-4 कार दी जाएगी।
राष्ट्रमंडल खेल : रेड्डी से मिले कलमाडी
नई दिल्ली राष्ट्रमंडल खेल-2010 की आयोजन समिति के अध्यक्ष सुरेश कलमाडी ने सोमवार को निर्धारित खेलों के आयोजन से जु़डे मंत्रियों के समूह की बैठक से पहले केंद्रीय शहरी विकास मंत्री जयपाल रेड्डी से रविवार को मुलाकात की।मंत्रियों के समूह के प्रमुख रेड्डी ने बताया कि कलमाडी ने खुद उनसे मिलने की इच्छा जाहिर की थी। रेड्डी ने कहा, ""मंत्रियों के समूह की सोमवार को बैठक होनी है। कलमाडी इसी संबंध में मुझसे मिलने पहुंचे। इस अवसर पर हमने दशहरा की शुभकामनाओं का आदान-प्रदान किया।"" सूत्रों का कहना है कि मंत्रियों के समूह की बैठक में खेलों से जु़डे उन सरकारी अधिकारियों की भूमिका पर चर्चा हो सकती है जिन्होंने आयोजन समिति के साथ काम किया है। इस बैठक में इस बात का फैसला किया जा सकता है कि आयोजन समिति से जु़डे सरकारी अधिकारी कब तक अपने विभागौं में वापसी करेंगे। कलमाडी और रेड्डी की मुलाकात को खास इसलिए माना जा रहा है क्योंकि बीते दिनों में प्रधानमंत्री और सोनिया गांधी ने उन्हें काफी हद तक नजरअंदाज किया है। पदक विजेताओं को अपने आवास पर मिलने के लिए बुलाने के दौरान प्रधानमंत्री और सोनिया ने कलमाडी को आमंत्रित नहीं किया था।

राष्ट्रमंडल खेल: भष्टाचार की जांच के लिए समिति गठित
दिल्ली। प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों के समापन के बाद आयोजन संबंधी जांच की बढ़ती मांग को लेकर पूर्व नियंत्रक एवं महालेखा परीक्षक की अध्यक्षता में कल रात एक उच्च स्तरीय समिति गठित कर दी जो आयोजन में भ्रष्टाचार संबंधी आरोपों की प़डताल करेंगी।नियंत्रक एवं महालेखा परीक्षक (कैग) ने कल इसकी पहल भी कर दी। सरकार ने पूरे मामले की जांच के लिए पूर्व नियंत्रक एवं महालेखा परीक्षक वी्के शुंग्लू की अध्यक्षता में एक उच्च स्तरीय समिति गठित की है। जो तीन महीने के अंदर अपनी रिपोर्ट प्रधानमंत्री को सौपेगी। भ्रष्टाचार के आरोपों का सामना कर रहे राष्ट्रमंडल खेल आयोजन समिति के अध्यक्ष सुरेश कलमाडी को कल एक तरह से उस वक्त डांट प़ड गई जब पदक विजेता खिलाडियों को प्रधानमंत्री आवास पर सम्मानित करने के लिए आमंत्रित किया गया लेकिन कलम़ाडी को बुलाया तक नही गया।

दिल्ली। हाल ही में सम्पन्न राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों के दौरान सुरक्षा के बारे में कोई भी नकारात्मक पहलु सामने न आने से राहत महसूस कर रहे केंद्रीय गृहमंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम ने कहा कि इस भव्य आयोजन की वजह से दिल्लीवासियों का सुरक्षाकर्मियों और सुरक्षा नियमों के प्रति नजरिया बेहतर हुआ है। चिदम्बरम ने यहां कहा, ""मुझे तसल्ली है कि किसी को भी सुरक्षा के मामले में कुछ भी नकरात्मक नहीं लगा। लोग यह समझ गए हैं कि आधुनिक शहर के लिए क़डे सुरक्षा प्रबंध अनिवार्य हैं। दिल्ली बदल गई है और यह बदलाव बेहतरी के लिए है।""

हैदराबाद में नहीं हुआ स्वर्ण पदक विजेताओं का जोरदार स्वागत
हैदराबाद। नई दिल्ली में 14 अक्टूबर को समाप्त हुए राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में बैडमिन्टन की अलग-अलग प्रतिस्पर्धाओं में स्वर्ण पदक जीतकर देश का मान बढ़ाने वाली साइना नेहवाल, ज्वाला गुट्टा और अश्विनी पोनप्पा का शनिवार को हैदराबाद पहुंचने पर जोरदार स्वागत नहीं हुआ। एक स्थानीय टेलीविजन चैनल ने जरूर राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में पदक जीतने वाली खिलाडियो का स्वागत किया। स्पोट्र्स अथॉरिटी ऑफ आंध्र पद्रेश के अधिकारी और अन्य लोग राजीव गांधी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाईअड्डे पर खिलाडियो के स्वागत के लिए नहीं पहुंचे। बैडमिन्टन प्रतिस्पर्धा में पुरूष वर्ग के एकल मुकाबले में कांस्य पदक जीतने वाले पारूपल्ली कश्यप, बैडमिन्टन प्रशिक्षक पुलेला गोपीचंद भी साइना के साथ यहां पुहंचे।
उल्लेखनीय है कि साइना, ज्वाला और कश्यप आंध्र प्रदेश के रहने वाले हैं जबकि अश्विनी कर्नाटक की रहने वाली हैं। महिला एकल मुकाबले में स्वर्ण पदक जीतने वाली साइना ने कहा, ""स्वर्ण पदक जीतना काफी रोमांचकारी एहसास था और मैं इसे कभी नहीं भूल सकती।"" विश्व की तीसरी वरीयता प्राप्त इस खिल़ाडी ने कहा कि राष्ट्रमंडल खेल के दौरान खेला गया फाइनल मुकाबला उनके जीवन का सबसे कठिन मैच था। साइना ने कहा, ""मेरे अभिभावकों, प्रशिक्षक और स्थानीय लोगों के सहयोग के बिना ऎसा करना मुमकिन नहीं था।"" साइना ने कहा कि वह अगले महीने चीन में होने वाले एशियाड के लिए तैयारी करेंगी। गोपीचंद ने कहा, ""वास्तव में यह रोमांचकारी मुकाबला था। बैडमिन्टन प्रतिस्पर्धा में दो स्वर्ण, एक रजत और दो कांस्य पदक अब तक का हमारा सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन है।"" उधर, आंध्र प्रदेश सरकार ने राज्य के स्वर्ण पदक विजेताओं को 10 लाख रूपये, रजत पदक विजेताओं को सात लाख रूपये और कांस्य पदक विजेताओं को पांच लाख रूपये का नकद पुरस्कार देने की घोषणा की है।

सिडनी। आस्ट्रेलियाई तैराक एलिसिया काउट्स को शायद ही कुछ लोग जानते थे, लेकिन दिल्ली में संपन्न हुए 19वें राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में पांच स्वर्ण पदक बटोरने के साथ ही रातों रात उनकी जिंदगी बदल गई। समाचार पत्र "सिडनी मॉर्निग हेराल्ड" के अनुसार 23 वर्षीय काउट्स को राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में पदक जीतने की उम्मीद नहीं थी। काउट्स की जिंदगी अब बदल चुकी है। इससे पहले इस आस्ट्रेलियाई तैराक के बारे में कोई नहीं जानता था। दिल्ली में हुए राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में मिली स्वर्णिम सफलता के बाद अब उन्हें सभी लोग पहचानने लगे हैं। कई लोगों को काउट्स की क्षमता पर शक था कि क्या वह एक तैराकी प्रतिस्पर्धा में पदक हासिल कर सकती हैं। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि काउट्स बीजिंग में हुए ओलंपिक की मिश्रित प्रतिस्पर्धा के फाइनल में पहुंची थीं, लेकिन उदर रोग संबंधी हुई सर्जरी के बाद वह अपनी वापसी के लिए जूझ रहीं थीं। काउट्स ने कहा, ""सचमुच मैं नहीं जानती थी कि मैं फिर से प्रतिस्पर्धा में हिस्सा ले पाऊंगी। मेरे दिमाग में यह हमेशा चलता रहता था कि क्या मैं वापसी कर पाऊंगीक्""

After Games, buses may be barred from corridor
NEW DELHI: The elevated road over Barapullah Nullah would be opened to general traffic once the Commonwealth Games is over. The stretch will be ready for first trial run on either Sunday or Monday, said sources. During the sporting extravaganza this stretch will be exclusively used for ferrying nearly 10,000 athletes and officials from the Games Village to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
"The project will be completely ready before the trial runs. Whereas on all other roads sportspersons may see major traffic pile ups on their left and right as they are driven through their dedicated lanes, on this stretch they will get the a full view of the city, with its canopy of trees and protected monuments," said project manager Sarvagya Srivastava of the PWD.
He added that initially the project looked impossible to accomplish. "Most people, including engineers, advised us to concentrate on a single carriageway rather than build a double-carriage road, but we took a chance. Fortunately, it's now almost done," Srivastava added.
Driving on this elevated stretch would take commuters away from the urban clutter at least for those few minutes. They can get a full view of Humayun and Khan-e-Khana tombs as well as the Neela Gumbad. "People will enjoy the drive because of several curves on this stretch. It's almost like an access-controlled road in the heart of the city. It will be a green drive since there will be less dust and better ambient air quality," claimed Priyank Mittal, executive engineer in-charge of the project.
A spokesperson of DSC Limited, the construction company that built this project said that best global technologies were used to complete this landmark project in record time.
"This road was constructed maintaining the existing drain corridor and without dismantling any structures in order to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of area," he added.
PWD officials said pre-cast segments were used to build the road. They added this technology helped them complete six metres of road per day, seven times faster than the conventional method.
Highly placed sources in Delhi government said though details of how this road will be used post-Games is yet to be decided, it's likely that plying of only light vehicles could get a preference. "A bus or truck breaking down on this stretch could lead to huge congestion, spoiling the benefit of this fast link," an official added.
