कुर्बानियों का फल है स्वर्ण पदक : अश्विनी पोनप्पा

हैदराबाद। राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में महिला युगल बैडमिंटन स्पर्धा में ज्वाला गुट्टा के साथ स्वर्ण पदक जीतने वाली उदीयमान खिलाडी अश्विनी पोनप्पा ने कहा कि कामयाबी पिछले चार साल से किए गए बलिदानों का नतीजा है।
पोनप्पा ने कहा कि यह स्वर्ण पदक मेरे लिए बहुत मायने रखता है। इससे साबित होता है कि हमने इसके लिए कितनी मेहनत की है। मैं खुश हूं कि पिछले चार साल के हमारे बलिदान सार्थक रहे। मुझे खुशी है कि ज्वाला और मैं स्वर्ण जीत सके। सफलता का जश्न मनाने के साथ ही पोनप्पा अगले महीने चीन में होने वाले एशियाड की तैयारी में जुटी है।
उनका मानना है कि राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों की तुलना में एशियाड में चुनौती काफी कडी होगी।
उन्होंने कहा कि मैं एशियाड में भी अच्छा प्रदर्शन करना चाहती हूं हालंकि इसमें चुनौती काफी कडी होगी। हमने एशियाई खिलाडियों के खिलाफ अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया है और मैच दर मैच रणनीति बनाकर आगे भी ऎसा कर सकते है।

बांग्लादेशी क्रिकेट टीम पर इनामों की बारिश

ढाका। हाल ही में समाप्त पांच मैचौं की एकदिवसीय श्रृंखला में न्यूजीलैंड पर 4-0 से शानदार जीत दर्ज करने वाली बांग्लादेशी क्रिकेट टीम पर इनामों की बारिश हो रही है। प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना ने खिलाडियों से मंगलवार को अपने आवास पर मुलाकात की और उन्हें राजधानी में घर बनाने के लिए जमीन और एक-एक कार देने की घोषणा की। यह इनाम टीम में शामिल सभी 20 खिलाडियों को दिया जाएगा।
समाचार पत्र "डेली स्टार" के मुताबिक इसके अलावा हसीना ने 20 खिलाडियों को एक-एक लाख टका नकद दिए। यह रकम प्रधानमंत्री को दो निजी बैंकों ने दिए थे। हसीना ने खिलाडियों को कारों की चाभियां भी भेंट कीं। इससे पहले, बांग्लादेश क्रिकेट बोर्ड ने अपनी टीम के प्रदर्शन से खुश होकर 80 लाख टके का पुरस्कार देने की घोषणा की थी। यह न्यूजीलैंड को हराने का बोनस है। यही नहीं, बांग्लादेश के खेल मंत्रालय ने खिलाडियों के खेल से खुश होकर सभी खिलाडियों को 10-10 लाख टके देने की घोषणा की है।
बांग्लादेश ने पहली बार अपने से शीर्ष वरीयता प्राप्त किसी टीम के खिलाफ अपने घर में एकदिवसीय श्रृंखला जीती है। टीम ने यह कारनामा सकीबुल हसन की कप्तानी में किया है।

महंगी प़डती है तेंदुलकर के खिलाफ छींटाकशी : ली

सिडनी। आस्टे्रलियाई क्रिकेट टीम के तेज गेंदबाज ब्रेट ली ने कहा है कि भारत के धुरंधर बल्लेबाज सचिन तेंदुलकर के खिलाफ मैदान में छींटाकशी करना आमतौर पर विपक्षी टीमों को महंगा प़डता है।
समाचार पत्र "सिडनी मार्निग हेराल्ड" ने ली के हवाले से लिखा है कि तेंदुलकर के अलावा वेस्टइंडीज के पूर्व कप्तान ब्रायन लारा और इंग्लैंड के धुरंधर बल्लेबाज केविन पीटरसन के खिलाफ भी मैदानी छींटाकशी की विपक्षी टीमों की रणनीति नाकाम होती है।
ली ने कहा, ""तेंदुलकर, लारा और पीटरसन कुछ चुनिंदा खिल़ाडी हैं, जिनके खिलाफ छींटाकशी न की जाए तो बेहतर है क्योंकि मौका मिलने पर ये खिल़ाडी जोरदार प्रहार करते हैं और टीम की सारी रणनीति तहत-नहस कर देते हैं। ऎसे में इनके खिलाफ छींटाकशी की रणनीति से बचना ही बेहतर होता है।""
तेंदुलकर के बारे में ली ने खास तौर पर कहा कि मैदान में यह महान बल्लेबाज आमतौर पर किसी से बात करना पसंद नहीं करता लेकिन मैदान के बाद उसका व्यवहार बिल्कुल संयमपूर्ण होता है। यह साबित करता है कि वह कितने सुलझे हुए खिल़ाडी और इंसान हैं।

हावर्ड को माफी नहीं : मुरलीधरन

मेलबर्न। विश्व के सबसे सफल टेस्ट गेंदबाज श्रीलंका के मुथैया मुरलीधरन ने खुद को चकर करार दिए जाने से जु़डे 15 साल पुराने मामले में अंपायर डरेल हेयर को तो माफ कर दिया है लेकिन वह 2004 में दिए गए एक बयान को लेकर आस्टे्रलिया के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री जॉन हावर्ड को माफ करने के मूड में नहीं है।
1995 में मेलबर्न क्रिकेट मैदान पर खेले गए टेस्ट मैच के दौरान हेयर ने मुरली की गेंदों को बार-बार नो-बॉल करार दिया था। आपत्ति जताए जाने पर हेयर ने कहा था कि मुरली गेंद को चक करा रहे हैं। इसके बाद हावर्ड ने वर्ष 2004 में हेयर के फैसले का समर्थन करते हुए मुरली को चकर कहा था।
मुरली ने समाचार पत्र "द डेली टेलीग्राफ" से बातचीत के दौरान कहा, ""मैंने हेयर को माफ कर दिया। मैं उस घटना को भूल चुका हूं। मैं उस घटना को लेकर काफी परेशान था लेकिन अंतत: मैंने उसे अपने मन से निकालने का फैसला किया लेकिन हावर्ड द्वारा चकर कहे जाने का मुझे आज भी दुख है और मैं इस बात को अपने मन से निकाल नहीं पा रहा हूं।"" मुरली ने कहा कि हावर्ड का बयान बेहद दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण था और यही कारण है कि उन्होंने 2004 के बाद कभी भी आस्टे्रलिया दौरे पर नहीं जाने का फैसला किया था।
मुरली ने कहा, ""इक्के-दुक्के दर्शक अगर मेरे खिलाफ छींटाकशी करते हैं तो चलता है लेकिन अगर हावर्ड जैसा अतिमहत्वपूर्ण इंसान साफ तौर पर मुझे चकर पुकारता है तो जाहिर तौर पर दुख होगा। मैं चकर था या नहीं इसका फैसला आईसीसी को करना था।""
मुरली ने टेस्ट मैचौं में 800 विकेट लेने का बाद संन्यास ले लिया। चकिंग के आरोपों से उबरने के लिए उन्हें कम से कम चार बार आईसीसी की अग्निपरीक्षा से गुजरना प़डा। इससे कई मौकौं पर उनके रिकार्डो की अहमियत पर सवाल ख़ड हुए लेकिन वक्त के साथ मुरली ने खुद को बेमिसाल गेंदबाज के तौर पर पेश किया और आस्टे्रलियाई खिलाडियों के साथ-साथ दुनिया भर के खिलाडियों को प्रशंसकों की सराहना बटोरी।

Complied with all laws and regulations: CWG Village builders

New Delhi: For the first time, Emaar MGF, the builders of the Commonwealth Games Village have responded to controversies around the Village in the run-up to the Games.

But speaking to NDTV, Emaar MGF says they have complied with all laws and regulations. They say the Games Village is a world class structure developed in record time.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had blamed the builders for the poor state of the Village and reports suggest the CVC has sent them notice as part of a larger probe.

Commonwealth Games Organising Committee's term extended

New Delhi: The ministers' panel on the Commonwealth Games has met for the first time after the completion of the Games and has decided to extend the tenure of the Organising Committee (OC) for the Games.

The tenure of government officials associated with the OC has been extended till further orders.

The Sports Ministry will now decide how long their tenure should be.

Addressing a press conference, Jaipal Reddy, Chairman of the Group of Ministers on CWG said, "The senior officers made available to the Organising Committee by the Government of India will be allowed to continue in the Organising Committee until further orders."

CWG audit has tough deadline: Three months

New Delhi: The man who will lead a massive audit of the Commonwealth Games has set an ambitious deadline. In three months, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) says, his team will present its findings on the Games to the government.

The Games were suffused with an array of corruption charges. Now, 24 government departments - 14 of them belonging to the Delhi government - will have to explain why so much money was spent, and what it was spent on.

CAG Vinod Rai said the audit has three goals -to establish "the physical outcome of expenditure, accountability, and whether it has been most optimal utilization of resources."

Every transaction and contract will be scrutinized by a team of 80-100 CAG staffers, who've been asked to immediately cancel any vacation plans.

An interim report of the CAG submitted before the Games began found that consultants picked for sponsorship and broadcast rights deals had been selected despite not offering the best terms to the Organizing Committee.

The consistent allegations of feckless expenditure and corruption that prefaced the Games are also turning into the epilogue. Hours after the Games ended, the Prime Minister's office confirmed that a series of parallel investigations would uncover foreign exchange violations, tax fraud and other financial misdeeds. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that the corruption seemed to be hinged to the Organizing Committee, whose chairman, Suresh Kalmadi retaliated on Sunday that the Delhi government's role was suspect.

After Games, buses may be barred from corridor

NEW DELHI: The elevated road over Barapullah Nullah would be opened to general traffic once the Commonwealth Games is over. The stretch will be ready for first trial run on either Sunday or Monday, said sources. During the sporting extravaganza this stretch will be exclusively used for ferrying nearly 10,000 athletes and officials from the Games Village to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

"The project will be completely ready before the trial runs. Whereas on all other roads sportspersons may see major traffic pile ups on their left and right as they are driven through their dedicated lanes, on this stretch they will get the a full view of the city, with its canopy of trees and protected monuments," said project manager Sarvagya Srivastava of the PWD.

He added that initially the project looked impossible to accomplish. "Most people, including engineers, advised us to concentrate on a single carriageway rather than build a double-carriage road, but we took a chance. Fortunately, it's now almost done," Srivastava added.

Driving on this elevated stretch would take commuters away from the urban clutter at least for those few minutes. They can get a full view of Humayun and Khan-e-Khana tombs as well as the Neela Gumbad. "People will enjoy the drive because of several curves on this stretch. It's almost like an access-controlled road in the heart of the city. It will be a green drive since there will be less dust and better ambient air quality," claimed Priyank Mittal, executive engineer in-charge of the project.

A spokesperson of DSC Limited, the construction company that built this project said that best global technologies were used to complete this landmark project in record time.

"This road was constructed maintaining the existing drain corridor and without dismantling any structures in order to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of area," he added.

PWD officials said pre-cast segments were used to build the road. They added this technology helped them complete six metres of road per day, seven times faster than the conventional method.

Highly placed sources in Delhi government said though details of how this road will be used post-Games is yet to be decided, it's likely that plying of only light vehicles could get a preference. "A bus or truck breaking down on this stretch could lead to huge congestion, spoiling the benefit of this fast link," an official added.

29 cricketers suspected of spot-fixing in IPL 2

In a startling revelation, 29 cricketers are suspected of spot-fixing in the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in South Africa last year.

The list, compiled by the International Cricket Council's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, includes some high-profile names but none from England or Pakistan. Pakistan's players did not take part in the Twenty20 tournament.

'Some betting patterns were very suspicious at IPL 2,' Sunday Times reported.

There have been long-standing concerns about the integrity of IPL, whose commissioner Lalit Modi is suspended on corruption charges.

Earlier, three Pakistani players Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were suspended by the ICC after their alleged involvement in the spot-fixing controversy during the fourth Test against England at Lords.
