Blackberry Solutions

NEW DELHI – India expects Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM) to come up with a technical solution next week to give local security agencies access to the company’s BlackBerry corporate email service, a senior government official said Friday.

Executives from the Canadian company are scheduled to meet India’s home ministry officials next week, he told reporters on condition of anonymity.

India has raised concerns over RIM’s BlackBerry corporate email and messenger services as security agencies fear terrorists may take advantage of their inability to monitor the heavily encrypted services.

The official said RIM has already provided solutions for security agencies to monitor its messenger service.

From September, security agencies can access the messenger service manually with a couple of hours’ delay, the official said. There won’t be any delay from November as the agencies will get automatic access, he added.

The government had earlier asked the company to find a solution by Aug. 31 to give security agencies access to the two services.
